Surf spots South America: Surf Atlas - Onlineboarding.com
The coasts of South America are sometimes exotic, sometime dirty,
always full of waves. The Pacific ocean pounds the coast of Chile with
massive swells year round. Peru, further north enjoys the long
straight lines from the same low pressure cells. All along the Pacific
coast of South America, surfers will experience cold water and long
left point breaks with waves as long as 2kn or 3 minutes! The Humboldt
current is strong and will ensure spaghetti arms on any of the point
breaks.
On the other side of
South America, the surfing is more mainstream. Brazilian surfers have
been on the world tour for some time which reflects that country's
interest in surfing. The beaches of Rio are packed with surfers,
bodyboarders and anything else that floats but the rest of the
Brazilian coast has epic waves.
