Surf spots Peru: Surf Atlas - Onlineboarding.com
Surfing in Peru offers one of nature's miracles: Chicama. Head north
along the Pan American Highway until you reach Trujillo. From there
either bus it or go in your car to Paijan. A dodgy taxi driver or
worse still a beat up Toyota van, with 24 people crammed in, will take
you from Paijan to Chicama where you'll meet 2km waves. Even at 2ft
Chicama breaks like a machine down the point. Put every point break
story you've heard into one and you've got Chicama.
The
Peruvian coast is littered with such point breaks. Pacasmayo is about
60km further north and picks up more swell than Chicama. Not as
perfect but more raw and worth the trip on the flat days at Chicama.
The coast between Lima and Trujillo is like a Martian landscape and
you'll be really roughing it but may find some waves never ridden
before.
In
and around Lima, there's some good (yet dirty) beachies and some big
wave spots like Pico Alto. There are many places in Peru where it
blows offshore 365 days a year - without fail.
